Jam-Air Motorsports was originally formed in 1980 by John Martin, owner. The team began by purchasing a complete turn key car from Gene Beaver (John Force's Uncle) and Lee Beard. The car was a 1980 Corvette know as the LA Hooker. The car was renamed and Henry Harrison was tapped to drive it while John Learned how to drive the car. At the first race out against Raymond Beadle, the Dwayne Lidke tuned Jam-Air Special ran the quickest side by side pass with Beadle. John took over the driving duties in late 1980.
The team had marginal success until they teamed up with Famous Amos Saterlee. Saterlee came aboard in 1984 and the tem built a new Dodge Daytona bodied Ken Cox car. the car instantly started turning things around and netted the team multiple wins in match race competition.
In 1988, John wanted to run the full NHRA tour and enlisted the services of Ronnie Swaringen & Jimmy Prock. The team campaigned a Steve Plueger built Chevy Beretta. Although the team had no major sponsors, the team won the March Meet and runnered-up at 2 NHRA National events including the Big Bud Shootout where Jim Head, who at the time had just switched to Top Fuel lost a very close race with Mark Oswald. The team would go onto finish 10th in NHRA Points for 1988. After multiple sponsorship opportunities failed to materialize, John parked te team midway through 1989 and eventually sold to Wyatt Radke in 1990.
After a 16 year hiatus, youngest son Will Martin brought back the Jam-Air team, Will purchased a ex Cruz Pedregon Murf Mckinney car and enlisted Famous Amos Saterlee to build a blown alcohol motor so the team could restart in CIFCA. The car was completed in July of 2006 where the team under the guidance of John Martin and new crew chief Howard Mazei, began the process of getting Will use to a funny car. Up until then Will had drove a super comp dragster in 1998 and also drove for Virgil Hartman in a match race group called Southern Fuel Coupes in the south eastern portion of the country. Martin finished 5th in his rookie year. After a rough first year which included a qualifying accident in Sacramento in September (steering wheel came off during a run), the team finished the season with their battered body and regrouped for 2007, In 2007, the team mounted a brand new firebird body and worked with Randy Anderson to refine the fuel system on the car. The focus of the team showed as the team in their first year finished 8th in points while competing in all events.
Looking forward to 2008, the team has secured EMCOR Services/Mesa Energy Systems as primary sponsor of the team. The team will also receive help from Thermo Power Industries as well. The goal for 2008 is for a top 3 finish in CIFCA points while working towards the team's first win and a CIFCA championship.
